Miss Primrose accelerates the students' training by sending them to an advanced obstacle course. But will competition get in the way?
To learn more about grim magic, Sophia, Ava and Layla sneak into the library after hours to borrow a restricted book that proves to be too powerful.
When grim magic contaminates the academy's water supply, the unicorns risk losing their power unless Sophia can save Starglow Lake with an unlikely ally.
Eager to decode the message from the Whispering Willows, Sophia skips party planning to visit the Vision Pool — right after promising Ava she wouldn't.
The Sapphires try everything to get Sophia and Ava to stop fighting, but they've got bigger problems: Two dastardly henchmen are after the grimstone.
As the academy teachers gear up to battle a powerful foe, they forbid their students from leaving the dorms. But one rider doesn't follow the rules.
Without the help of their teachers, the students must work together to take on the evil Ravenzella all by themselves. Unicorn Academy depends on it!
A rift between Isabel and River causes their bond to break. A stranger to the Island seizes the opportunity to force an unnatural bond with River causing his water magic to go haywire on Fate Fairy Island.
The students of Sapphire dorm join Ms. Wildwood on an overnight camping trip with their unicorns. Sophia is hoping the adventure will cheer up Wildstar, who has been distracted and unhappy lately, but he reacts negatively when the kids learn about the Unicorn Constellation. This magical star formation appears in the sky every few years, bringing extra magic and new baby unicorns to the island! Ava and Leaf bond with one such foal after they help rescue it from danger when it's startled by a mysterious figure in the woods. When Sophia's crystal necklace flashes, she thinks it's her father signaling that she should find him.
The Sapphires take an astronomy course in the Observatory with Mr. Tansy and learn more about the Unicorn Constellation. Sophia is shocked to discover that the last Year of the Unicorn was when her father disappeared, and he’d been searching for the Crown Stars (the three stars that make up the horn) before he – and Grimoria – vanished. She deduces that Miles used these stars – and Wildstar, somehow – to achieve this. If she can find these special stars after they fall from the sky, she may have the power to bring him back! Unfortunately, Wildstar is not on board, and Sophia can’t understand why. Meanwhile, Ava and Leaf sneak their unicorn foal friend into the dorms for a “baby shower.” But when Ms. Furi gets suspicious, the gang has to work together to sneak the foal back into the wild before they get in big trouble.
The gang split up at night to search the Island for the first fallen Crown Star, but Sophia and Wildstar’s search is interrupted by the mysterious Star Snatcher, who they discover is also hunting stars. A chase ensues, but the Snatcher gets away when Wildstar and Sophia get trapped in a steep ravine and can’t escape with magic because their bond has weakened. Tensions are high between the pair, until they fall asleep... and Sophia wakes up in Wildstar’s dream! She sees his traumatic memory of the day Miles used the Crown Stars and disappeared. When they wake up, she understands why he’s been scared, but convinces him that this time will be different because Miles tried to do it alone, and this time – they have all their friends to help. Comforted, they recover their bond and escape the ravine. Wildstar's star-heightened powers lead Sophia, Val and Isabel to the first Crown Star... but they’re attacked by the Star Snatcher!
Sophia and Wildstar escape the Star Snatcher’s attack and return to school triumphant, having collected the first of three Crown Stars! Meanwhile, Unicorn Academy has two visitors: former riders Samuel Crawford, and Mona Furi (yep, of the Furi family!). While Val tries her best to impress her austere grandmother, Layla suffers a crisis of confidence when she discovers that traditional cowboy Sam was Glacier’s former rider. Worried about how she compares to him in Glacier’s eyes, Layla tries to impress – and ends up making a mess. Samuel invites Glacier to leave Unicorn Academy behind and join him on the mainland. But Glacier is loyal to Layla – he’s staying! And to prove how much he cares, he presents Layla with a special hideout behind a waterfall. It’s the perfect spot for these best pals – and for Sophia to hide the Crown Stars she collects.
The gang join Ms. Wildwood on a special mission – relocating a herd of wild unicorns before a volcano can destroy their habitat. But herding the newly star-born foals is like, well, herding cats! The foals scatter and the riders have to collect them before the volcano erupts. Ava and Isabel compete to see whose method is better to motivate the foals – Ava’s loving support, or Isabel’s firm coaching. Meanwhile, Sophia and Wildstar slip away to collect the second Crown Star, which has fallen nearby. But Valentina goes after them, accusing Sophia of making a mistake. If the stars have the power to bring back Miles, then what happens if they also bring Grimoria back? The argument creates a rift between the girls – but they’ll have to work together when the Star Snatcher attacks, attempting to steal the second star!
Overwhelmed with academics, Rory jumps at the chance to be initiated into a secret society of pranksters. The seniors in charge pressure him to pull all kinds of pranks and stunts to prove his ‘worth,’ but it’s not a good look. Isabel discourages him from hanging out with these jerks – and even Storm is anxious for Rory to stop before he gets into serious trouble. When the pranksters tell Rory to steal an object from Ms. Primrose’s office, he hesitates – but ultimately breaks in and unleashes a destructive fluffhopper! Meanwhile, Sophia, Ava and Layla head out to find the last Crown Star... and Valentina sneaks off to alert Ms. Primrose of their plans. Sophia and the girls defeat the Star Snatcher to collect the third and final star – now she can bring her dad back!... But there may be more to this than it seems. Unbeknownst to Sophia, the star they’ve collected shimmers... as if it’s an illusion.
With all three Crown Stars now in hand (or so they think), Sophia and Wildstar try to use them to bring Miles – and possibly Grimoria – back. But... it doesn’t work. Nothing happens. Sophia is devastated, but there’s no time to grieve. The kids are pulled from their beds in the middle of the night to begin their final test of the school year; a simulated Unicorn Rider mission. They are transported via the Magic Map to take Kimblewick Ruins back from ogres that have infiltrated the ancient grounds, and they also need to save a ‘hostage,’ Ms. Furi. It is meant to be a test of their abilities and their teamwork – but it doesn’t go well. Valentina is too focused on her own performance, and is still feuding with a distracted and heart-broken Sophia. It’s going badly – and that’s before the ruins start to collapse, turning the practice mission into a real rescue!
The Sapphires work together seamlessly to rescue Ms. Furi. United in spirit once again, they achieve a magical Harmony Bond, which awards them brand new unicorn powers! Though they failed to complete the test in the allotted time, because of their collaboration and ingenuity, Ms. Primrose passes them anyway. The close call with her aunt helps Valentina realize the importance of family, and she can now appreciate why Sophia risked everything to save her father. Val tells Sophia that she’s been working with Primrose against her... and the third star they collected was a fake. THAT’S why their attempt to bring Miles back failed. But as the magical Unicorn Constellation has not yet faded from the sky, there’s still time to try again – and Valentina knows where the real Crown Star is hidden. Sophia and the gang break in to the head teacher’s office to find it, only to be trapped by Ms.Primrose. We reveal that she was the Star Snatcher all along – using Ethera's Illusion magic to disguise herself - and she won’t let Sophia risk bringing Grimoria back. She traps the kids in pleasant illusions, hoping to run out the clock until the Constellation fades and the stars lose their magic. But Valentina pulls them out of their reverie in time. Finally, armed with all three (real!) Crown Stars, Wildstar uses her light magic to bring Miles back – and GRIMORIA with him!
Sophia learns that her father is a prisoner of Lazul - a Grimorian villain made entirely of crystal. He tricked her into finding the magical stars using the crystal pendant on her necklace. The self-appointed King of Grimoria vows to continue what Ravenzella started years ago. But to execute his nefarious plan, he'll need to use the Academy's Magic Map. All unicorns and riders must step up to protect the Academy, and to rescue Miles from Lazul's evil clutches.
